Ilex Protein Skimmer 01 – PP Protein Skimmer

The Ilex Protein Skimmer 01 is a compact and efficient PP protein skimmer, manufactured entirely in-house by Makoi Pond Filtration (MPF). This protein skimmer is specifically designed for ponds with high organic loads and is suitable for ponds up to 20,000 liters.

Operation

The pond water is fed via a pump in the pond or a bypass of an existing pump to the 110 mm inlet of the protein skimmer (recommended minimum 3 m³/hour to maximum 8 m³/hour). The water first enters a pressure chamber containing an EPDM air membrane.

This membrane produces very fine air bubbles (requires an air pump with a minimum capacity of 30 liters per minute). The air supply is connected via a 20 mm air connection.

The intensive mixing of air and water continuously changes the surface tension. This allows proteins, fats, and other organic waste to adhere to the air bubbles, resulting in the formation of stable foam.

The filtered water then flows into the overflow chamber, which contains a height-adjustable valve. This valve allows the user to precisely adjust the foam production. The water then leaves the protein skimmer through the 110 mm outlet and flows back into the pond.

Drainage and Maintenance

At the top is a 32 mm foam drain, which can be connected to the sewer or a collection bucket.

The protein skimmer is also equipped with an additional 32 mm drain, allowing easy emptying of the filter during maintenance or cleaning.
